Planning Through Assessment

...

We see a teacher scribing for reception age children who are being encouraged to develop stories of their own.

Their stories are too one dimensional, ending habitually with the death of all the characters. The planners work together to decide how to best encourage a range of endings. The assessment of the work we see at the beginning of the clip is therefore pivotal to the planning we see later in the same day, this exemplifying why the planning cycle in early years tends to be short term compared to expectations that teachers might have for primary and secondary age children.
